GT vs DC IPL 2025: KL Rahul’s century goes in vain as Gujarat Titans’ openers Sai Sudarshan and Captain Shubman Gill helped his team chase down the target of 200 without any hiccups with one over left and also secured a berth in the playoffs.

With this win of Gujarat Titans, RCB and Punjab Kings have also qualified for the playoffs along with GT. Now there is a fight for the 4th and final spot among MI, DC and LSG in which MI’s NRR is the best. Other four teams have been eliminated already. If LSG lose to SRH on Monday, they will be eliminated as well. So for LSG, every match is going to be a knockout.

After losing the toss and been asked to bat first, Delhi Capitals didn’t have a flourishing start to their innings. Faf du Plessis and KL Rahul struggled in the initial overs. Playing a rash shot in frustration, Faf lost his wicket in the fourth over. Rahul had a steady start in the beginning but played his shots in the latter part of his innings once his eyes were set and scored a brilliant century. He single handedly took Delhi’s total to a respectable 199 after 20 overs.

Looking at the recent forms of Gujarat batters, this target was not something which was out of their reach. But the fashion in which they chased down the target was not expected and surprised the fans. Sudarshan and Shubman were hitting boundaries at will and the runs flowed in from every corner at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

Captain Shubman Gill missed out on a well deserved hundred. He remained unscathed at 93 runs in 53 balls with 3 fours and 7 sixes. His partner, young Sudarshan didn’t miss this opportunity to hit his 2nd hundred in IPL as he scored 108 runs off 61 balls with 12 fours and 4 sixes with last one coming as winning runs. Both of them remained unbeaten as Gujarat sailed through to the playoffs.

This is the first time in IPL that 200 plus runs have been chased by 10 wickets. This is also the 2nd highest run chase by GT after 204 runs against DC only this year.

With 9 wins after 12 matches, Gujarat currently sits at the top of the points table with ‘Q’ against its name with a lot of credit going to their opening pair. The opening pair of Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill have been in sublime form for Gujarat Titans this season and has scored the highest runs as an opening pair in the history of IPL in a single season.

  • 839 – Shubman Gill & Sai Sudharsan (GT, 2025)*
  • 744 – Shikhar Dhawan & Prithvi Shaw (DC, 2021)
  • 671 – Mayank Agarwal & KL Rahul (PBKS, 2020)
  • 602 – Mayank Agarwal & KL Rahul (PBKS, 2021)
  • 601 – Virat Kohli & Devdutt Padikkal (RCB, 2021)

Sai Sudarshan at the post match presentation said, “If feels great to make the team win. I missed out quite a few times at doing so this season and in the break, I was thinking about it and it paid off today. After the 6 overs, the 7-10 overs they bowled really well, the momentum went down, we were cool and calm enough to take the game deep. We got a couple of big overs from 12-13 which helped.

“Previous games I took chances and got out, but was aware enough to take the right matchups. I started to believe a bit more to be honest, mindset point of view belief has gotten better. Don’t think not many changes as a batter but mentally I have gotten better. When I look at the spinners, maybe I can get better at striking them. After the 15th over I have a lot of things to work on, I’m keeping a check on that. (about Gill) There’s a lot of understanding between us. Running between the wickets is one thing which we talk about and when I do a mistake he points out and similarly from my side as well”.

The biggest 10-wicket victory before this match was for KKR against Gujarat Lions in 2017 where they had chased down the target of 184 runs in just 14.5 overs. Captain Gautam Gambhir(76*) and Chris Lynn(93*), player of the match were the openers for KKR that time.
