Venue for Cricket in LA Olympics 2028: LA28 Organising Committee has confirmed Fairgrounds in Pomona, South California as the venue where cricket matches of both men’s and women’s team will be played in Los Angeles Olympics 2028.
The game of Cricket marks its return to the Olympics after 128 years, the last time it was played was back in 1900 Paris games where Great Britain and France played a two-day match.
While the inclusion of Cricket at LA Olympics 2028 was already confirmed by The International Olympic Committee (IOC) in October 2023, the Executive Board approved the event program and athlete quotas for the 2028 Olympics on 9th of April Wednesday, which includes the addition of cricket in the T20 format.
“We welcome the announcement of the venue for cricket at Los Angeles 2028 as it is a significant step towards the preparation for our sport’s return to the Olympics,” Jay Shah, the ICC chair, said. “Although cricket is a hugely popular sport, it will be a fantastic opportunity to expand traditional boundaries when it features in the Olympics in the fast-paced, exciting T20 format that should appeal to new audiences.”

Pomona is about 50km to the east of Los Angeles and the Fairgrounds, officially known as Fairplex, is a 500-acre complex that has hosted the Los Angeles County Fair since 1922.
In 2028, the vast campus of the Fairgrounds in Pomona will transform into a top-tier temporary, purpose-built structure for Cricket. For nearly a century, this location has served as the home to the annual LA County Fair and hosts a variety of year-round events including trade shows, conventions, and sporting events.
The LA28 Olympics, which will be held from July 14 to 30, 2028. Other than Cricket, Baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes) and squash have been officially included as additional sports on the programme for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 (LA28). The decision was taken by the 141st Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 16th October 2023.
As per the approval, both men’s and women’s T20 tournaments will be conducted, with six teams participating in each category. Each team will comprise 15 players, allowing a total of 90 cricketers to compete in the Olympic Games.
The inclusion of cricket in Olympics in the Los Angeles 2028 is expected to enhance the sport’s visibility on the global stage and potentially lead to its presence in other major international events.
The T20 format, which is recognized as the vehicle for the growth of the game, has also featured in other multi-sport events in recent years.The Asian Games in 2010, 2014 and 2023 featured both men’s and women’s T20 competitions while the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games staged a women’s competition.
