PCB issues clarification on the incident
Reacting to the incident, PCB has issued a statement condemning the behaviour of the fans. “The Pakistan cricket team management has strongly condemned the abusive language directed at national players by foreign spectators. During the match today, foreign spectators hurled inappropriate remarks at cricketers present on the field,” the PCB said.
“When anti-Pakistan slogans emerged, cricketer Khushdil Shah stepped in and urged the spectators to refrain. In response, Afghan spectators escalated the situation by using further inappropriate language in Pashto. Following the Pakistani team’s complaint, stadium officials intervened and ejected the two disruptive spectators,” the statement added.
New Zealand Cricket also issues statement
A statement from New Zealand Cricket confirmed that two spectators had been ejected “following an altercation” with Khushdil Shah. “The incident, which occurred after the game had finished, involved alleged abuse of Pakistan players in a foreign language, thought to be Pushto, and an angry reaction from Khushdil – who responded by confronting the pair,” the statement said. “Ground security prevented the incident escalating further and removed the offending spectators from the premises.”
In this rain curtailed game reduced to 42 overs, New Zealand beat Pakistan by 43 runs. Michael Bracewell (C) was declared man of the match for his quick fire 59 runs and a wicket of Faheem Ashraf, while young pacer Ben Sears was chosen as the Player of the series for his splendid bowling performance. Pakistan’s nightmarish New Zealand series has come to an end with this ODI defeat where they have been white-washed 3-0 after getting thrashed 4-1 in the T20 series.
