Riyan Parag controversy: Yesterday in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium a dispute erupted in the match between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans when Riyan Parag was given out by the third umpire. While returning to the pavilion, the young batter was visibly upset and was seen exchanging some hot talks with the on-field umpire.
Riyan Parag Umpire dispute: What actually happened?
While chasing the target of 218, RR didn’t have an ideal start that is required to chase down a big total. They had lost two quick wickets in Yashaswi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana and were down to 12-2 in 2.2 overs, when Riyan came in to bat.
RR captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag tried to build the innings to take the game close and had stitched an important partnership of 48 runs. In the first over after powerplay off the bowling of Kulwant Khejroliya, Riyan tried to play an extravagant drive between mid-off and extra cover but the ball seemingly took the outside edge of the bat and went straight into the gloves of WK Jos Buttler. The on-field umpire raised the finger but Riyan Parag immediately took the DRS.

In the replay, there was a clear spike on the snickometer when the ball passed the bat and thus third umpire also retained the on-field umpire’s decision and he was given out.
Riyan Parag looked completely displeased with the decision and he was perhaps trying to covince the on-field umpire that the sound in the snickometer was not of the ball but the bat hitting the ground. However le left the field reluctantly and eventually his team lost the match by 58 runs.
