Suruchi Singh wins Gold: India makes a strong start to the ISSF World Cup 2025 in Lima, Peru. India currently leads the medals tally with 3 medals (1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze) as on 16th of April 2025. Lima leg of the tournament started on 15th of April and ends on 22nd of April.

Eighteen-year-old Suruchi Singh secured her second consecutive gold after edging past double olympic medallist Manu Bhaker in the 10m Air Pistol event here on Tuesday. With a score of 243.6 Suruchi won gold, Manu Bhaker with a score of 242.3 won silver and China’s Yao Qianxun took bronze with a score of 219.5.

Suruchi Singh had also won gold in the 10m Air Pistol event at the Buenos Aires leg of the ISSF World cup that concluded on 11th of April.

Bhaker, making her return to the podium since the Paris Olympics, expressed satisfaction with her performance after disappointment in Buenos Aires last week and praised Singh’s achievement. “It makes me really happy to see young Indian shooters coming up and doing well at the international level,” said Bhaker. “Suruchi has done exceptionally well both in Buenos Aires and now in Lima and I hope this continues for a long time. At the same time, I hope to keep the pace up with the youngsters.” said Manu.

Shooter Saurabh Chaudhary, back in the national team after almost two years, marked his steady rise with a bronze medal while his cousin Varun Tomar finished fourth in the final of the 10m Air Pistol event on the first competition day of the ISSF Shooting World Cup in Lima, Peru on Tuesday. He shot 219.1 to finish behind China’s Kai Hu (246.4) and Brazil’s Felipe Almeida Wu (241). His last individual World Cup medal was at the Cairo World Cup in 2022 where he had won gold. Saurabh won the mixed team bronze with Suruchi Singh at the World Cup in Buenos Aires last week.

India finished the Buenos Aires leg of the ISSF World cup concluded last week second on the medals tally with 8 medals behind China winning 11 medals.
